Mesons at large Nc from lattice QCD

We calculate the pion and ρ meson masses in quenched SU(N) gauge theories for N = 2, 3, 4 and 6. Extrapolating these results to the chiral and large-N limits, we find mρ = (1.670± 0.024) √ σ = (741± 11) MeV for the ρ meson mass at a fixed lattice spacing a ≈ 0.093 fm. We estimate a continuum value, mρ = (786 ± 22) MeV, where we use the value σ = 1 GeV/fm ≈ (444 MeV) for the string tension. We f...

Baryon-Pion Couplings from Large-Nc QCD

We derive a set of consistency conditions for the pion-baryon coupling constants in the large-Nc limit of QCD. The consistency conditions have a unique solution which are precisely the values for the pion-baryon coupling constants in the Skyrme model. We also prove that non-relativistic SU(2Nf ) spin-flavor symmetry (where Nf is the number of light flavors) is a symmetry of the baryon-pion coup...

Excited baryons and heavy pentaquarks in large Nc QCD

We briefly discuss the large Nc picture for excited baryons, present a new method for the calculation of matrix elements and illustrate it by computing the strong decays of heavy exotic states. PACS. 11.15.Pg 1/Nc expansions – 14.20.-c Baryons

Volume independence in large Nc QCD-like gauge theories

Volume independence in large Nc gauge theories may be viewed as a generalized orbifold equivalence. The reduction to zero volume (or Eguchi-Kawai reduction) is a special case of this equivalence. So is temperature independence in confining phases. A natural generalization concerns volume independence in “theory space” of quiver gauge theories. In pure Yang-Mills theory, the failure of volume in...
